    Mission Statement


Our Mission is to promote and maintain a good physical environment and provide the best facilities and infrastructure conforming to the needs of the technology up-gradation in the most economical and efficient manner.

    Introduction


In the beginning State Bank started functioning in old S.B.I. Building. The repair/ maintenance, renovation and additions/alterations work pertaining to these building were looked after by the Public Works Department. Problems in execution of various works had been experienced with them in the form of delays and inferior quality of works. Bank, therefore, decided to establish its own Engineering Department for maintenance of its existing buildings, construction of new buildings and colonies for its staff.

    The Organizational set up of the Department


Since 2nd January, 2002 the department has been made a part of the SBP BSC (Bank). The Engineering Department will continue to provide services to the State Bank and its employees without any disruption as hithertofore. The Director, Engineering will report to the Managing Director, SBP Banking Services Corporation (Bank) for all administration purposes but will continue to responsible to Executive Director (SSD) for rendering services in the respective areas of work and execution of all on-going and future projects of the State Bank.

The Bank’s Central Board has constituted a Sub-Committee of Directors of the Central Board to look after the affairs of the building projects including award of work, monetary sanctions and monitoring progress etc.

The Sub-Committee at present consists of the following:-

Although set up of this Department was small, it succeeded to manage construction of various multistoried buildings for the Bank. At present Bank’s offices in almost all the big cities are functioning in its own beautiful buildings having facilities of A.C., Lifts. modern Telephone Exchange and Mosque/Prayer Room etc. For burning of soiled notes, incinerators have been constructed at each office. Bank’s offices at Sukkur, D.I. Khan, Bahawalpur and Gujranwala are functioning in rented premises. This Department made necessary additions/alterations in the rented premises for providing the facility of vault, Banking Hall and Examination Halls etc. However, now it has been decided to construct Bank’s own building in these centres for which efforts being made for acquiring land at these centres and also at Gawadar. The modus operandi for construction and maintenance is as follows:-

  • Finalization of requirements in consultation with Accounts Department and other related Departments of the Bank.
  • Appointment of Architect/Consultant through publication of notice in press all over Pakistan.
  • Selection of Architect/Consulting firm with the approval of Sub-Committee.
  • Scrutiny and approval of the detailed scheme prepared by the Consultant.
  • Pre-qualification/invitation of tenders from the various contractors/construction firms through publication of notice in Newspapers.
  • Selection of the contractor/construction firm by the Sub-Committee.
  • Supervision of the work by Engineering Department and Engineering Units at Bank’s various centres.

    Operation & Maintenance/Upkeep

  • Operation & maintenance of E&M Installations, Air-conditioning plants, Diesel Generating Sets, Lifts, Telephone Exchange, Security Doors etc.
  • As regards major items pertaining to maintenance, these are carried out through the Bank’s approved contractors.
  • To look after day-to-day civil maintenance/repair works including water supply & sanitary installations & janitorial works of all building premises. The janitorial works of Bank’s Buildings have been entrusted to this Department w.e.f. 30-06-1998.
  • Horticultural works are also attended to by this Department. Nurseries are being maintained at some of the centres and in Karachi for production of plants and flowers etc.
